Wasn't that a time poster

Wasn't that a time! is an award-winning documentary about the blacklisted folk group, The Weavers, and the events leading up to their triumphant return to Carnegie Hall in 1981.

You will be thoroughly entertained by four people who obviously love what they are doing - lifting their voices in song and spreading their message of tolerance throughout mankind. I give highest praise to this movie. It’s a classic to be shared with friends and family alike. For people who say “I just don’t like documentaries,” this will change their minds.

Songs include:

On top of old Smokey - Guantanamera - When the saints go marching in - Goodnight Irene - Tzena, Tzena, Tzena - Wasn’t that a time! - If I had a hammer - Nobody knows you when you’re down and out - Kisses sweeter than wine - Wimoweh - We wish you a Merry Christmas!

People came along to find out what ‘Humph Hall’ is all about and to enjoy the fabulous documentary film about the group who brought traditional folk music to the masses and paved the way for the folk boom of the 1950s and its offshoots in other genres of popular music. As unabashed political activists, whose careers were rudely interrupted by the McCarthy era witch hunts, The Weavers also offered a shining example of the artist as activist for generations of musicians to follow. Many came at 6pm with a plate and shared a meal with their neighbours. Duration of the film was 76 minutes.
