Acacia Ensemble

Formed in the Sydney suburb of Manly in 2010, the Acacia Ensemble brings together four musicians who have acquired a wealth of professional experience across several continents.

Furnished with a repertoire that primarily focuses on the Classical and Romantic periods, the ensemble is able to produce music of the highest quality, whatever the occasion.

For their second appearance at Humph Hall, the Acacia Ensemble have put together a program with a 'Cycle Of Life' theme which will contain a lot of personal symbolism. Each piece on the programme is somehow linked to birth, a new discovery, life, a farewell or death.

  • Haydn: Sunrise Quartet, Op. 76/4
  • Chan: Farwell My God I. Forever
  • Meale: Cantilena Pacifica
  • Schubert: Death and the Maiden D 810

The concert will begin with Haydn's string quartet Op 76 No 4 nicknamed 'The Sunrise' for its beautiful rising theme that blossoms from the 1st violin. Joseph 'Pappa' Haydn is known as the founder of string quartet writing and this delightful work is a perfect start to the programme.

In stark contrast, the afternoon will finish with Schubert's incredibly dramatic string quartet No 14 nicknamed 'Death and the Maiden'. This is a very exciting and moving work that all string players dream of playing.

November 23rd will also be the 1st anniversary of Richard Meale's passing so Acacia are very happy perform his gorgeous work 'Cantilena Pacifica' to celebrate the life and output of this great Australian composer.

Acacia will also be giving a world premiere of Lyle Chan's first ever work for string quartet, 'Farwell My Good I. For Ever' which the composer states, 'it’s my farewell to a part of myself... but also a recognition of new things'.

As an added bonus, you get to see Lisa's marvelous whale story paintings which on display around the walls of Humph Hall. Apart from being an amazing violinist she is also an illustrator for Scholastic books.
